Staff

Craig Slack is the Assistant Director, Adele H. Stamp Student Union and directs leadership, community service learning and student involvement area at the University of Maryland. He has spent the past 22 years weaving themes of leadership education into community service learning, civic engagement and student involvement experiences in partnership with students, faculty and staff. He serves as the primary advisor to the student government association and oversees the student organizations services area along with the administration of the student activities fee. He works with the leadership development programs - co curricular, curricular and EDCP Leadership Studies Minor. He serves as an affiliate instructor in the Counseling and Student Personnel Services department of the College of Education.

As the Director of the National Clearinghouse for Leadership Programs and National Clearinghouse for Commuter Programs Craig collaborates with approximately 900 leadership educators and commuter affairs professions from around the country and internationally to advance the scholarship, teaching, practice of leadership for the common good. Katie Hershey is the Coordinator for Community Service-Learning, America Reads * America Counts. She earned her BA in Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis, and her MA in Counseling and Personnel Services (College Student Personnel) at the University of Maryland. Katie spent several years working in the non-profit sector in Chicago before entering the field of higher education. She spent a year in the Public Allies Americorps program, where she worked with an early literacy program at the Institute for Cultural Affairs and collaborated with community members, community agencies, and public schools in Chicago. She then worked at the Greater Chicago Food Depository (Chicago's food bank), where she directed the Volunteer Program. Most recently, Katie was the Graduate Coordinator of Leadership and Community Service-Learning at the University of Maryland, where she worked to coordinate the Alternative Spring Break program.

Daniel Ostick is the Coordinator for Leadership Curriculum Development and Academic Partnerships. He works with the leadership academic coursework, developing curriculum, assisting instructors, and providing resources for the classroom. Daniel also teaches several leadership courses in the College of Education and provides support for the Minor in Leadership Studies and the Chevy Chase Leadership Internship Program (CCLIP).

Daniel earned his undergraduate degree in advertising from the University of Georgia and his masters degree in College Student Personnel Administration from Indiana University. Daniel has worked in Residence Life at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (as a Hall Director), the University of Texas at Austin (as an Area Coordinator), and at the University of Maryland (as the Coordinator for Human Resources). Patrick Grayshaw is the Graduate Coordinator for Outreach, Programming, and Advocacy. He earned his bachelors degree in Human Development & Family Studies from Bowling Green State University. After graduating, Patrick served in AmeriCorps promoting Civic Engagement to the student and community in Bowling Green, OH. Patrick is currently a masters student in the College Student Personnel program at The University of Maryland.

Mei-Yen Hui is the Coordinator for Leadership and Community Service-Learning--Outreach, Programming, and Advocacy. She is originally from North Carolina and lived in Portland, OR for six years where she received a BA in Foreign Languages from Lewis & Clark College and worked for two years as the Civic Engagement Coordinator through AmeriCorps. Mei-Yen then attended the University of Maryland--College Park and received a Master's in College Student Personnel. While in graduate school, she worked as the Graduate Coordinator for the Alternative Breaks program with Leadership and Community Service-Learning.

Robin Black is the Graduate Assistant Coordinator for America Counts. She received a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics with a certification in Secondary Education from Goucher College and a Master's degree in Curriclum and Instruction with a Leadership Focus from McDaniel College. For the last five years Robin taught high school math in Howard County, Maryland. Robin is now a doctoral student in Curriculum and Instruction.

Janaiha Nelson is the Graduate Coordinator for the America Reads*America Counts program. She is a recent alumna of the George Washington University, graduating magna cum laude with a BA in psychology and a minor in peace studies. Janaiha is a second-year doctoral student in the School Psychology Program at the University of Maryland. She is currently interested in learning more about prevention research, social skills training, and informal learning environments.

Elizabeth Doerr is the Coordinator for Community Service-Learning, Immersions. She is involved in the Alternative Breaks Program. Elizabeth is originally from Washington State and earned her BA in Rhetoric/Media Studies and Spanish at Willamette University in Salem, OR. After she graduated from Willamette, she served as a community health Peace Corps Volunteer in Malawi, Southeastern Africa where her primary focus was HIV/AIDS education. After returning from Malawi, Elizabeth moved to the Washington, DC-area to work as a Peace Corps Recruiter. She is currently earning her MA in International Education Policy from University of Maryland. Elizabeth loves the outdoors and traveling.

Ramsey Jabaji is the Coordinator for Leadership Development Programs in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union- Center for Campus Life. In this position, Ramsey serves as an advisor to the Peer Leadership Council- a trained group of graduate and undergraduate student leadership educators. He provides support to the Terrapin Leadership Institute program, O.N.E. UMD Student Organization Leaders Conference, and the MOSAIC: Diversity & Leadership Retreat. In addition he is responsible for the strategic oversight and direction of the co-curricular leadership program.

Previously, Ramsey was a Student Affairs Residential Fellow in the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life and Membership Services Coordinator at the International Leadership Association- both at University of Maryland. Before coming to Maryland, he was the Coordinator for Co-curricular Initiatives at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA.

Ramsey is a Ph.D. student in the College Student Personnel Administration program at the University of Maryland. He has his master's degree from University of Maryland in Counseling & Personnel Services and a bachelor's degree in Sociology & Environmental Studies from Franklin & Marshall College.

Beth Niehaus is the Graduate Coordinator for the EDCP Minor in Leadership Studies. In this position she teaches a variety of EDCP leadership courses, advises students enrolled in the Minor, and works with the Chevy Chase Leadership Internship Program.

Beth has a bachelor's degree in Linguistics from the University of Virginia and a master's degree in American Studies from Washington University in St. Louis. She is currently a doctoral student in the College Student Personnel Program at the University of Maryland. Before coming to Maryland, Beth spent several years working with college students in the areas of civic engagement and community service, first in southern California and then as an Americorps volunteer at The Ohio State University. Matt Johnson is the Graduate Coordinator for Co-Curricular Leadership Development. He earned his bachelors degree in business marketing from Saginaw Valley State University, and is masters degree in College Student Personnel from Miami University (Ohio). Matt is currently a doctoral student in the College Student Personnel program at Maryland. Before coming to Maryland, Matt worked at the Kettering Foundation in Dayton, OH, as a Research Associate studying democracy and civic engagement.

Alice Bishop is the Program Management Specialist, Adele H. Stamp Student Union - Center for Campus Life. In her role, she supports the administrative functions of two assistant directors and their departments: 1) Leadership Community Service Learning and, 2) Engagement. Alice also serves as the Membership Coordinator for the National Clearinghouse for Leadership Programs (NCLP) that serves as a central source of professional development for leadership educators.

Prior to coming to the Stamp Student Union, Alice was Program Administrative Specialist in the Office of Diversity, College of Computer, Mathematical and Physical Sciences. She also spent several years in the College of Journalism working with the Center for Children and Families, a national nonprofit resource and training center committed to media coverage of children, youth and families, particularly the disadvantaged. Alice earned an associate secretarial science degree from the Washington School for Secretaries and an associate degree in community development and planning from Federal City College, Washington, D.C.

Alice is passionate about youth and community involvement and enjoys collaboration with community groups, schools, agencies and government. She serves as President of her neighborhood civic association and director of the teen council. You can reach Alice at 301.314.8494.

Kristan Cilente is the Graduate Coordinator for National Clearinghouse for Leadership Programs. Kristan earned her BA in sociology and history from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA and her MA in higher education administration from the University of Arizona. She has most recently worked as the Senior Coordinator for Community Service-Learning at Maryland and was at Georgetown University as the Assistant Director of Orientation and Leadership Programs previously. Additionally, Kristan served as the Chair for ACPA's Standing Committee for Graduate Students and New Professionals, has taught in the LEAD program, and is an advanced doctoral student in the College Student Personnel Program in the College of Education.
