How can I get involved?

You can join a UMCP Student Service Organization to do service or participate in TERPcorps, CSL's student-run programming board. Also, you can help plan or participate in any of our Programs. Or, you can do service when you want to or with a community agency of your interest, check out our Resources.

How do I find a service site? How do I plan out a service event or program? Can I find sites focusing on a specific social issue or population? What student organizations are doing service?

For answers to these questions check out our handouts section of this web site. Also, match your service interests with a community agency through our on-line searchable database "ServiceLink," which houses over 900 service organizations and opportunities database listing form.

Can I learn and develop my leadership skills through community service and service-learning?

There are several opportunities to expand your leadership experience. You can be a site leader for the Alternative Spring Break Program, be a mentor for the America Reads or America Counts program, join TERPcorps, or enroll in our service and leadership classs (EDC 318) to name just a few. Check out our Resources and Program pages for more information.

What classes include community service and service-learning? Which professors teach service-learning courses? Can I be an undergraduate teaching assistant(UTA) for a service-learning course?

For answers to these questions, check out our Service-Learning Course List and our UTA in Service Learning program.

Is there a place to check out upcoming community service events (one-time or ongoing), find out about internships at community agencies, and funding resources for service events and programming?

Yes, there is a place to find out such information. You can check out our week e-newsletter called UMServes for all of this information, upcoming one-time type events can be found on our events calendar, and we have additional information on careers and internships at service related organizations on our Resources page.
